Before your appointment
How to prepare for a mobile car detail at home or work
On this page
Before a mobile car detail, clear out your personal belongings, choose a safe place where detailing is allowed, and tell the detailer about anything that needs special attention.
Alum brings its own water and generator to appointments around Westerville, Worthington and nearby Columbus. You do not need to arrange a hose or an electrical outlet. The main preparation is making the vehicle and work area accessible.
Clear the areas you want cleaned
Take out bags, clothing, paperwork and valuables before the appointment. Check the seats, floors, door pockets and cargo area. If you want an accessible storage compartment cleaned, empty your belongings from it first and discuss that area with Andy.
This also gives you a chance to point out what matters most. Perhaps the front seats need attention, or the cargo area has collected dirt after carrying sports equipment. Mention those priorities instead of assuming they will be obvious from the package name.
You do not need to make the car look presentable before asking for a detail. An honest description of its condition is more useful than trying to hide the areas that need work.
Choose a permitted place to park
A driveway or another suitable parking area can work when there is enough safe space around the vehicle and detailing is allowed there.
At an apartment or workplace, check with the property manager or the person responsible for the parking area before arranging the visit. Permission to park does not always include permission to have a vehicle washed or detailed.
Share gate codes, parking instructions and access restrictions directly with Alum. If the space is tight or you are unsure whether the location will work, discuss it before the appointment.
Tell Andy about problem areas
Include heavy stains, pet hair, mud or other concerns in your request. Describe where the problem is and what you want the service to achieve.
For example, "There is pet hair across the back seat and cargo carpet" is more useful than "The car is dirty." If a stain is your main concern, explain what caused it if you know and whether you have already tried cleaning it.
Andy may ask for photos or call you to understand the condition before confirming what the package can cover.
Leave enough time for the visit
Alum's current planning estimates are up to roughly two hours on site for an Interior Detail, 45 to 90 minutes for an Exterior Detail, and three to four hours for a Complete Detail.
These are estimates. Setup, vehicle condition and travel affect the schedule, so discuss any firm deadline with Andy before the appointment. Avoid planning another use of the car around the shortest possible completion time.
Alum's hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. Your requested time still needs confirmation.
Check the appointment details
Before the visit, make sure the service address, selected package and contact number are correct. Agree with Andy on how he will access the vehicle and how to reach you if a question comes up.
If rain or other weather makes the work unsafe or impractical, Alum reschedules to the next available time. Contact Andy if you have a scheduling concern.
Arrange your mobile detail
Choose the service you need and book a detail, or call Alum at 614 695 2656 to discuss the location first.
Alum brings the water, power and detailing equipment. You provide a safe, permitted place to work and a clear picture of what your car needs.
